Montgomery Aztecs 0, Santana Sultans 41

It was not a sight for sore eyes for the sea of purple fans for the Santana Sultans fateful as they watched a mauling of a very shorthanded Montgomery Aztecs squad 41-0 on Friday night in Santee.  Santana runs their record to 3-1 on the season while Montgomery falls to 0-4.  The night belonged to the hogs up front for Santana the offensive line created gaping holes when they wanted to run the rock, and perfect passing lanes for senior quarterback, Frankie Gutierrez when he threw it.  Gutierrez, accounted for all six of the Sultans touchdowns.  Whether he threw it or called his own number and ducked and tucked to score, he scored on a keeper from 15 yards out in the 2nd quarter it didn’t matter it was Santana’s night.

Sultan’s really set the stage early with good defense and did whatever they wanted to on offense.  Leading the game 41-0 at half and salted the game away in the 2nd half.  However, the Aztecs never stop playing and fought for the entire game they just could not find the end zone.  They had a couple nice drives when senior quarterback, Israel Dorame hooked up with junior receiver Anthony Parra on a couple nice passing plays to get deep into Santana territory but penalties or not being on schedule on first and second down was the demise for Montgomery, 3rd and long situations did not bode well for the Aztecs offense despite some flashes of good plays.  Santana will hit the road next and roll over to San Diego High, the Cavers are 1-3 so far this season.  Montgomery will travel to face 3-1 La Jolla Country Day.

PREVIEW: Tale of the tape for this Week 4 matchup with Montgomery (0-3) making the long bus ride from South San San Diego out to face the Santana Sultans (2-1), the Aztecs dropped a close one last week against Clairemont 27-26.  A vast improvement for Montgomery in a one point loss.  They were shutout in the first two weeks of the season.  This will be the Aztecs first road game of the season.

Santana lost an absolute shootout last Friday night 41-38 against Castle Park.  Santana went 4-6 last year and with a win this week will be 3-1 and well on their way to surpass that and then some in the weeks to come.  Sultans are lead by senior quarterback Frankie Gutierrez who is a dual threat running and throwing the ball.  You will also hear the PA Announcer calling junior running back’s name Bobby Wallace.  Santana has an explosive offense averaging 50 points per game, they can beat you through the air and on the ground.  The Aztecs will counter with a couple of dual threat options of their own as well with Richard Parker, playing WR/DB and Anthony Parra QB/DB.  A total of eight starters returned for Montgomery this season, but they have struggled so far for 4th year coach Ted Jarumayan.  This game is a must win for Montgomery falling to 0-4 would be devastating for the Aztecs psyche especially having to play the next two weeks on the road after dropping the first three home games to kickoff the 2015 season.  Kickoff on Friday night at 7pm from Santana, Highlights at 10:30pm only on the Prep Pigskin Report only on KUSI
