Moorad steps down as Padres CEO
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – The San Diego Padres announced Thursday that Jeff Moorad has stepped down as the club's chief executive officer.
Moorad will remain vice chairman of the club and will be responsible for overseeing the Padres' involvement in the development of Fox Sports San Diego.
In 2009, Moorad and a California-based group reached an agreement to purchase the team over several years from John Moores, who still controls 51 percent of the team, however, on March 9, Moorad withdrew a bid to take over a controlling share of the franchise.
On an interim basis, Padres President and COO Tom Garfinkel will assume the CEO duties, team officials said.
