Grossmont Foothillers 34, Morse Tigers 15

Grossmont fans will be able to rest easy this week after watching their team win their first game of the season, 34-15 over Morse.

Despite the lopsided score, Morse was the team to establish themselves early. Quarterback Marcus Turner connected with Jaylin White for a 32 yard touchdown to give them an 8-0 lead early. Then after another stalled drive by the Foothillers, D’Anthony Walcott took a hand off 34 yards to pay dirt. This touchdown would be the last time the Tigers scored the rest of the game.

Grossmont found its spark in wide-receiver Khaleed Davis. Davis did almost everything on the field tonight. He played some defense, caught several passes, and even returned a punt return for 80 yards for a touchdown (the first of two touchdowns he would score in the game)! Running back Jake Harr was phenomenal as well. He ate up well over 100 yards rushing tonight and probably broke somewhere over 10 tackles throughout the night as he punished oncoming tacklers time and time again.

My prediction earlier this week was Grossmont had the slight edge because of Jake Harr, and boy did he deliver. Harr, quietly finishing the game with 1 touchdown, was the solid card coach Tom Karlo could go to whenever he needed a consistent, positive play.

Grossmont’s next game is at home against Otay Ranch. Morse’s next game is going at Olympian.
