Week 11: St. Augustine Saints 47, Morse Tigers 6
The St. Augustine Saints rolled past the Morse Tigers, 47-6, in their regular-season finale on Friday night.
The night got started when Saints’ Byron Cardwell scampered in the end zone from eight yards out putting the Saintsmen up 7-0.
Saint Samuel Scaife decided he wanted to be the star of the show. Angelo Peraza hit Scaife from 23 yards out.
It looked so good so they decided to do it again, Peraza to Scaife. This time it was from 11 yards out. As the second quarter was starting, the score was 20-0, St. Augustine.
Scaife made it a point to show what he could do on the field when he caught a one-handed 14-yard touchdown. Scaife caught his fourth touchdown of the game that time from 13 yards out. Scaife’s 14-yarder made the score 34-0 Saints.
The second half was slower for both teams. Morse got on the board when Michael Wright took a low punt 58 yards for a touchdown.
Scaife thought that four wasn’t enough so he went out and caught a fifth touchdown. Scaife ended the evening with 183 receiving yards and five touchdowns.
The final score was 47-6, Saints. The win bumps the Saintsmen to 7-3 and drops the Morse Tigers down to 5-4.
The Week 11 matchup between the Morse Tigers and the St. Augustine Saints is one of the most important games of the week.
It is a matchup between two teams looking to make a final push towards a playoff spot. St. Augustine competing in Division I and Morse in Division III.
The last time these two schools met was in 2015 when St Augustine rolled past the Tigers.
For Saints, the offense will carry the game. Angelo Peraza has led the offense all season long. Peraza has thrown for over 1,600 yards and has thrown 15 touchdown passes. Peraza has also rushed for over 100 yards and found the end zone with his feet once.
Peraza has received help from a two-headed monster in the running backs.
Cole Barry and Byron Cardwell have rushed for a combined 1300 yards and 15 touchdowns. Both backs have speed bursts fast enough to outrun even the most athletic defenses.
On the defensive side of the ball, JT Penick has been a force for the Saintsmen. Penick has recorded 72 tackles on the season, including 5 1/2 sacks and a pick-six.
As for the Morse Tigers, they also have some athletic weapons on offense.
Isiah Thompson, Jaycob Hicks, and Shamar Martin have been tearing it up for the Tigers all season. The three of them have combined for almost 2,000 rushing yards and almost 20 touchdowns.
Devin Brown has been a brick wall on defense with 94 tackles on the season.
