Motorcycle crash claims experienced Marine’s life

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A motorcyclist killed on a Temecula freeway was a highly decorated combat-veteran Marine stationed in Miramar, officials reported Thursday.

Master Gunnery Sgt. Brent Sherrell, 41, of Temecula, was riding about 20 mph in heavy traffic southbound on Interstate 15 about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday when his Harley-Davidson clipped a Jeep and crashed near Rancho California Road, according to USMC authorities and the California Highway Patrol.

Sherrell fell in front of a truck, and a trailer being hauled by the vehicle ran over him, inflicting fatal injuries, CHP Officer Ron Thatcher said.

Sherrell, a Camas, Wash., native who enlisted in the Marine Corps in October 1987, was a correctional liaison with Naval Consolidated Brig at USMC Air Station Miramar.

His personal decorations include a Combat Action Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait), Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia), two National Defense Service Medals, two Navy Unit Commendation Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, three Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, three Southwest Asia Service Medals, four Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation Medals and seven Marine Corps Good Conduct Medals.
