Motorcyclist suffers spinal injury after losing control at turn in Kearny Mesa

A 22-year-man was injured after crashing his new motorcycle into a guardrail.

According to a police report, the man was riding his Yamaha YZ motorcycle northbound on the 5400 block of Kearny Villa Rd. at around 12:30 p.m. He lost control of the motorcycle while turning, crashed into a guardrail, was ejected and slid underneath a parked vehicle marked “for sale” at an auto dealership. Firefighters had to lift the car up to recover the injured rider.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for two broken vertebrae. Kearny Villa Road was briefly shut down during the afternoon. Police say they will conduct a follow-up investigation.
