Motorcyclist dies in Oceanside collision

OCEANSIDE (CNS) – A motorcyclist died Tuesday in a collision with a van on North River Road, the Oceanside Police Department reported.

The motorcycle was westbound on North River Road at a high rate of speed around 2 p.m. when an eastbound van made a left turn onto Festival Drive and was broadsided by the two-wheeler, Lt. Leonard Cosby said.

The rider, whose name wasn’t immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene, Cosby said. The van driver was transported to Tri-City Medical Center, but the severity of the motorist’s injuries wasn’t clear.

The lieutenant said drivers should avoid the area because westbound traffic on North River Road was restricted to one lane for an investigation, and Festival Drive was closed.

Cosby also asked drivers to use extra caution in the area because of the rain.
