Motorcyclist killed in accident near Fallbrook

RAINBOW (CNS) – Friends and family Friday mourned a 20-year-old Fallbrook man who was fatally injured when he crashed his motorcycle into the back of an SUV and slid across the roadway before being run over by a big rig.

The fatality on northbound Interstate 15 in the area of Rainbow occurred about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt.

The man, who was riding a 2002 Honda Shadow at an unknown speed, came upon stopped traffic and was unable to brake in time to avoid crashing into the back of a 2000 Ford Expedition, Bettencourt said in a statement.

On hitting the SUV, the man went down with his bike, which slid across two lanes of traffic and ended up under a 2005 Peterbilt big rig, the officer said. He died at the scene, Bettencourt said, adding that neither of the other drivers involved was injured.

Authorities withheld the man’s name pending family notification.
