Motorcyclist killed after suspected DUI driver runs red light on Linda Vista Road

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — A man riding a motorcycle was killed when a suspected drunken driver ran a red light and crashed into the motorcycle in the Linda Vista area of San Diego, a police officer said Tuesday. 

The collision occurred about 6:45 p.m. Monday, at the intersection of Genesee Avenue and Linda Visa Road, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims. 

According to Heims, a 26-year-old man driving a Nissan Altima was stopped at a red light in the turn lane when he suddenly drove through the red light, made a left turn on Linda Vista Road and collided with a man riding a Honda motorcycle, Heims said.

The motorcyclist became trapped under the vehicle and was dragged over 75 feet. Crews from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department had to extricate the motorcyclist, who was declared dead on the scene. His name was withheld pending notification of next of kin. 

The driver of the Nissan, Anthony Garibaldo, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, Heims said.
