Motorist killed after hitting light pole near Miramar

SAN DIEGO – One motorist was killed in a crash early Friday morning when their vehicle struck a light pole on the westbound state Route 52.

The collision took place just before 2 a.m., according to witnesses, when the vehicle was attempting to transition from the westbound 52 to the northbound Interstate 15. The vehicle's impact on the pole downed a group of live wires that caused the transition to be shut down.

It was not known at the time if the driver was the lone motorist in the car, as nobody from the scene of the crash was taken to the hospital.

The identity of the motorist was not immediately known.
