Mount Laguna boil water order lifted

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A boil water order for a system serving federal facilities in Mount Laguna that was issued 10 days ago has been lifted, the county Department of Environmental Health reported Thursday.

Testing showed that the water system was found to be free of E. Coli and total coliform bacteria, according to the DEH.

The boil water order issued Feb. 9 applied to the Desert View picnic ground, Red-Tailed Roost trail, Sierra Club Lodge, Camp Ole Fire Station and Visitor Information Center.

The Wooded Hill, Horse Heaven, El Prado, Yerba Santa, Laguna and Burnt Rancheria campgrounds were also included in the order.

The presence of E. Coli indicates contamination by human or animal waste. Total coliform bacteria comes from the soil or other environmental sources, which means there could be a break in the pipes, the DEH said.

The agency said the federal water distribution system was disinfected and follow-up samples confirmed the water was clean.

The other two water systems on Mount Laguna — which serve homes, private cabins, shops and restaurants — were not included in the order.
