Mountain View resident fatally shot near home

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Homicide detectives today were investigating the fatal shooting of a Mountain View resident gunned down as he rode a bicycle near his home.

Police received several calls around 7 p.m. Thursday reporting shots fired and a man down in the 200 block of South 35th Street, said Lt. Jorge Duran of the San Diego Police Department's homicide unit.

The victim was found on the ground in front of an apartment building on the east side of the street suffering from at least one gunshot wound, he said, adding that despite the efforts of paramedics, he died at the scene.

After being shot, the victim fell off his bike and ran northbound on South 35th Street toward his residence but collapsed before he made it home, Duran said. His name was withheld pending family notification.
