Valley Center Jaguars 57, Mt. Carmel Sundevils 3

Week 1 is in the books as it was an exciting kick off to the 2018 season. Valley Center came into this game trying to make a statement and that is exactly what they did. Valley Center came out of week 1 with a 57-3 win over the Mt. Carmel Sundevils in week 1.

Early in the first quarter the Sundevils had a great drive including a 70 yard pass from Carson Taumoepeau to Parker Campana, which led to a field goal. After that impressive drive the Jaguars defense kicked it up a notch and didn’t allow the Sundevils to do anything else the rest of the game.

The Jaguars offense was just too much for the young Sundevils team as running back Mateo Sinohui finished the game with 189 yards and 6 touchdowns. The offensive line created big gaps for Sinohui to explode through. Quarterback Rikki Mazzetti looked real comfortable in the pocket as he didn’t have much pressure all game but when he did, he was able to get off some nice throws.

This Valley Center team came out real strong week 1 and will be a team to look out for this season. The Jaguars will head to Chula Vista for week 2 as they will face the Otay Ranch Mustangs. Mt. Carmel will look to bounce back next week as they host the Granite Hills Eagles, which will be a very impressive win.

PREVIEW:

On Friday, the Valley Center Jaguars will host the Mt. Carmel Sundevils to kick off the highly anticipated 2018 football season.

Both teams have been preparing all offseason for this week. The Valley Center Jaguars will be under head coach Rob Gilster, entering his 21st season for the Jaguars. The Jaguars are coming off a great 2017 league winning season, ending their season with a final record of (9-2). Unfortunately, their great season ended by Granite Hills in the playoffs 30-49. Valley Center will look to start off the 2018 season right with a victory.

The Mt.Carmel Sundevils are under head coach John Anderson and will look to start their season off right. The Sundevils are coming off a 2017 (3-8) record with their season ending in the playoffs to Cathedral 0-63. Mt. Carmel is a pretty young team with over 50% of the team being sophomore and juniors but that won’t stop them from trying to get the win on Friday.
