An estimated 1,000 firefighters are assigned to fight San Bernardino fire

SAN BERNARDINO (KUSI) – 9:24 p.m. – An estimated 1,000 firefighters have been assigned to combat the North Fire in San Bernardino.

An estimated 3,500 acres have burned. 

2:30 p.m. – Multiple cars caught fire after a brush fire started on the I-15 near San Bernardino Friday afternoon.

The fire started around 2:30 p.m. in the center divide, possibly from a burning cigarette.

Mandatory evacuations in effect for the Baldy Mesa area. Multiple homes are in danger of the fire. 

Approximately 2,000 acres have burned with a rapid rate of spread. 

All lanes in both directions are currently closed.
