Mural vandalized in South Park sparks debate

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A South Park mural, sponsored by restaurant Buona Forchetta and Community Realty Co., was recently vandalized.

At 30th and Juniper Street and 30th Street, the community mural sponsored by several neighborhood businesses was targeted by a vandal over the weekend.

Photos posted on the Buona Forchetta San Diego’s Instagram account show the mural on Fern Street spray painted over to read, #EthnicCleansing, instead of #NeighborhoodLove. Below the hashtag another line was added that reads, #HipsterPacifism.

The vandalism was discovered outside a restaurant that is under construction. Neighbors believe the spray-painted messages are a message against the gentrification of South Park.
