National City man arrested for Clairemont bank robbery

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 27-year-old National City man was arrested on suspicion of robbing a bank in San Diego, the FBI announced Monday.

Oscar Esteban Valle was suspected of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank branch office at 5522 Balboa Ave. around 1:40 p.m. Saturday, according to FBI Special Agent Darrell Foxworth.

Valle demanded money from several bank tellers while keeping one of his hands in his sweatshirt pocket, simulating the presence of a weapon, Foxworth said, adding three tellers complied.

Valle then allegedly ran out of the bank and fled in a Nissan pickup that was parked away from the business. San Diego police spotted the pickup a short time later and a roughly 10-minute chase ensued, Foxworth said, adding that during the pursuit, Valle’s vehicle hit a San Diego police vehicle in the area of Sports Arena Boulevard and East Drive.

The chase continued until Valle struck another vehicle in the area of Sports Arena Boulevard and Interstate 8, where he fled on foot and was arrested a short time later, Foxworth said.

Valle was booked into San Diego Central Jail in lieu of $2 million bail.

Valle faced multiple charges, including robbery and evading police, Foxworth said.
