National City Mile of Cars South Bay GOTW: Hilltop Lancers 28, Sweetwater Red Devils 6

RECAP:

The Week 10 South Bay Game of the Week features the Sweetwater Red Devils (2-6) taking on the Hilltop Lancers (4-4).  The game is played at Chula Vista High School as the Lancers’ field is being renovated with artificial turf.  In the end the Lancers improve their record to 5-4.

Hilltop is coming off an impressive win over Chula Vista at the Spartans’ stadium. The team’s no huddle offense has been very effective in keeping opposing teams off guard and physically exhausted.

For Sweetwater Head Coach Bryan Wagner this is an emotional match-up. He went to Hilltop and had a great career in the NFL as a punter. As a first year coach this is Wagner’s first time going up against his Alma Mater.

Jeremiah Rivera gives the Lancers the lead at the start of the fourth quarter with a 15-yard scamper into the end zone.

At the start of the second quarter

Sweetwater’s Brandon Sweeney throws a pass to Joey Motta who is off to the races making it 8-6 Hilltop.

Minutes later Hiltop’s Jeremiah Rivera runs it in from six yards for his second touchdown run of the game to make it 15-6 Lancers.

In the third quarter Rivera scores his third touchdown run of the game with an eighty-yard run into the end zone.

At the start of the fourth quarter Rivera scores his fourth touchdown of the game. He amasses a total of 311 rushing yards to lead Hilltop to a 28-6 victory..

PREVIEW

The Week 10 South Bay Game of the Week features the Sweetwater Red Devils (2-6) hosting the Hilltop Lancers (4-4).

Hilltop is coming off an impressive win over Chula Vista at the Spartans’ stadium. The team’s no huddle offense has been very effective in keeping opposing teams off guard and physically exhausted.

Quarterback Daniel McPherren has thrown for 7 touchdowns for 914 yards and has 3 rushing touchdowns to his credit..

One of his favorite targets is Jeremiah Rivera who has 7 touchdown grabs.

On defense Hilltop is lead by David Corona who has 27 solo tackles.

It’s important to point out Hilltop has no home games this season because their field is being renovated. Still the Lancers have managed to perform admirably.

Sweetwater’s offense is powered in part by running back Marty Sesma who is having a fine season.

Head Coach Bryan Wagner is an interesting story. After graduating from Hilltop he went on to play college football and eventually play several years in the NFL as a punter.

He even played for the Chargers when they went to the Super Bowl.
