National City Mile of Cars South Bay GOTW: Hilltop Lancers 29, Chula Vista Spartans 6

     The Week 9 South Bay Game of the Week features the Chula Vista Spartans (4-3) hosting the Hilltop Lancers (3-4).  

     In the end the Lancers emerge victorious.

     This match-up is a real South Bay rivalry that goes back many years…in fact it’s named the Chula Vista-Hilltop Kiwanis Bowl. Both the home and away stands are packed at kick-off!

     The first quarter ends with both teams tied at 0-0.

    At the start of the second quarter Hilltop’s Jeremiah Rivera muscles his way into the end zone to give the Lancers the lead.

     Then with four minutes to go in the half Lancer Quarterback Daniel McPherren throws a nice touchdown pass to Gus Ferreira to make it 14-0 Lancers.

     At halftime Chula Vista’s School of Creative and Performing Arts puts on a halftime show featuring over a hundred dancers!!

     Chula Vista finally gets on the board when back-up quarterback Moses Contreras (starting QB Darrion Hamilton is injured at the end of the half) hooks up with Ubaldo Nolasco.

    Hilltop’s Daniel McPherren throws his second touchdown pass of the game when he hooks up with Noe Sanchez. 

     At the end of the fourth quarter Greg Marshall pulls off a pick-six to give Hilltop another touchdown to give the Lancers a 29-6 win.


The Week 9 South Bay Game of the Week features the Chula Vista Spartans (4-3) hosting the Hilltop Lancers (3-4). 

     Chula Vista’s Head Coach is Howard Bannister who is in his first year.

     On offense the Spartans have enjoyed the success of Quarterback Darrion Hamilton who has thrown for

six touchdowns.

     On defense Ubaldo Nolasco has been a real tour de force with 10.5 quarterback sacks to his credit.

     Hilltop’s Quarterback Daniel McPherren has thrown five touchdown passes this year.

     One of his favorite targets has been Gus Ferreira who has caught 28 passes this season despite being injured. Last year he won all-section honors when he pulled in 125 passes for 15 touchdowns.

     On defense the Lancers are spear headed by David Corona who has 23 solo tackles to his credit.

     This has not been an easy season for Hilltop. Because their field is being renovated, they’ve had to play all their home games at other schools.
