NATIONAL CITY: Motorcycle rider killed after slamming into traffic stopped for funeral procession
(CNS) – A National City man was killed on a freeway onramp
when he suddenly encountered traffic that had stopped for a funeral procession,
the California Highway Patrol said Sunday.
Patric Wade Paterson, 58, was riding his motorcycle at a high speed on
the Interstate 805 on-ramp at 47th Street. His bike hit traffic on the freeway
ahead of him stopped for a funeral procession, according to the San Diego
County Medical Examiner's Office.
Patterson's motorcycle crashed into the back of a pickup truck,
officials with the Medical Examiner's Office said.
The motorcycle rider was spotted down and bleeding, the CHP reported.
Fire personnel initiated advances cardiac life support measures, but
after attempts to revive him had failed, Patterson was pronounced dead, the
Medical Examiner's Office reported.
The on-ramp was shut down following the crash and a SigAlert was issued,
the CHP said.
