National City passes new ordinance against puppy mills

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A new ordinance approved by the National City City Council requires all pet stores in the area to only sell pets from rescue shelters.

Their requirement specifies pets must come from rescue shelters in the city that have partnerships with the San Diego Humane Society, the ASPCA, or other reputable shelters within the county. In other words, no pets coming from “puppy mills.”

National City City Councilmember Mona Rios joins KUSI to discuss the new ordinance.
