National City Police warn against celebratory gunfire
NATIONAL CITY (CNS) – Anyone in National City caught firing a gun into the air Wednesday night in an attempt to ring in 2015 with a bang will be arrested, police in the South Bay city said.
“Don’t fire a gun in celebration,” NCDP warned in a statement, adding that the practice was not only dangerous but illegal.
Police also encouraged residents to report such gunfire so officers could follow up. Police said residents could report ahead of time if they know someone who regularly fires a gun at midnight.
“Reports of gunfire will be taken seriously and officers will respond appropriately,” police said. “While our goal is not to dampen the spirit of celebration, anyone engaged in the illegal discharge of a firearm will be arrested.”
Tipsters can remain anonymous.
