National Heroin and Opioid Awareness week

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Do you know anyone who is addicted to heroin? For most people, the first reaction is no, but sadly you may be shocked.

The number of people addicted to heroin and opiates has quadrupled in the past 10 years.

Many of those people start in high school.

Out of all the scary movies your kids might watch, this could very well be the scariest one.

The movie is called, "Chasing the Dragon," a street term for chasing down heroin.

It’s part of a nationwide effort to open some eyes about the biggest public health crisis in the country today.

U.S. Attorney Laura Duffy took this message to the classrooms, speaking to a group of high school kids who are enrolled in health and medical science classes.
