San Diego Mayoral candidate Todd Gloria on the new California laws that go into effect in 2020
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Several new laws in California will go into effect starting New Year’s Day.
AB 5, written by San Diego Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez-Fletcher, is set to go into effect Jan. 1. The bill aims to reclassify independent contractors, or freelancers, as part-time or full-time employees.
Also going into effect is AB 262, which establishes new state mandates that city leaders must follow during any disease outbreaks like the 2017 Hepatitis A outbreak.
SB 159, which gives Californians access to HIV medication over-the-counter, will also go into effect.
The minimum wage will also increase to $13/hour in San Diego and in the State of California.
Assemblymember Todd Gloria was in studio to discuss these new laws.
