Next steps for the 50th Congressional District if Rep. Hunter resigns

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Congressman Duncan D. Hunter plead guilty Tuesday to one count of misusing campaign funds.

He has not publicly said if he will resign his seat before he’s sentenced in March. Resignation is not part of the plea deal, but prosecutors expect him to give up his seat soon. Once his resignation is official, Governor Newsom has 14 days to call for a special election..

Congressman Hunter told KUSI Monday that his office will stay open and there will be a seamless transition to whoever takes his seat next.

Political Analyst John Dadian was in studio to talk about this.
