NFL Agent Jack Bechta – What will Chargers do in NFL Draft?

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The annual NFL Draft is an event many NFL fans look forward to every year. With each team getting a fresh group of players that can help their team win, the excitement level is always high.

In the case of the San Diego Chargers, however, the occasion brings a little more drama than usual.

Rumors have circulated for days about the possibility of the Bolts trading away Philip Rivers, their Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback, in an attempt to move up to the number two overall pick and draft Oregon quarterback Marcus Marriota. According to NFL agent Jack Bechta, the window for such a deal appears to be closed.

“I know for a fact the Chargers did get some calls about potentially trading Rivers, but the Chargers shut it down pretty quick,” Bechta said Thursday on Good Morning San Diego. “Philip’s their quarterback, and I think they’d be pretty foolish to trade one of the top 5 or 6 best quarterbacks in the league.”

“I think he’s going to be throwing the ball for us this year.”

With the Chargers seemingly set on keeping their number 17 pick in the first round, Bechta sees it as a great opportunity to add a quality player.

“There’s a lot of value there (at the 17th pick),” Bechta said.

National mock drafts leading up to Thursday’s first round suggest the Chargers may be looking to add either a running back or an offensive lineman. Names linked to the team and the 17th overall pick include running backs Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon, and offensive tackles Brandon Scherff and La’el Collins.
