NFL turns down AMVETS Super Bowl advertisement

The NFL has rejected an American Veterans Organization advertisement for this year’s Super Bowl program. The rejected ad features the American flag with #PleaseStand. The NFL says the ad is too political, though they themselves have supported players who kneel during the National Anthem.

In a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Marion Polk, the head of AMVETS wrote, Freedom of speech works both ways. We respect the rights of those who choose to protest, as these rights are precisely what our members have fought & in many cases died for. But imposing corporate censorship to deny that same right to those Veterans who have secured it for us all is reprehensible and totally beyond the pale.”
