Dog killed in San Marcos ‘hoarder house’ fire

SAN MARCOS (KUSI) – A San Marcos home described by fire officials as a "hoarder house” caught fire Monday morning, and although no injuries to residents or firefighters were reported, a dog was killed.

The fire at the home on Rock Springs Road near Bennett Avenue was reported shortly after 10 a.m., according to North County fire officials.

Crews from San Marcos, Escondido and Rancho Santa Fe fire departments contained the blaze to the kitchen. It took firefighters about 25 minutes to subdue the blaze.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
