North County Game of the Week: Ramona 49, Westview 14

The “Trip Up the Hill” to #7 Ramona proved to be too much for the Westview Wolverines in the “UC San Diego North County Game of the Week”

Ramona RB Brandon Gansch ran for 154 yards and 4 touchdowns, while QB Marco Cobian was “Better than Good” as the Bulldogs (6-1, 2-0) cruised in a 49-14 win over the Wolverines (1-6, 0-2).

The Bulldogs drove right down the field on their 1st drive of the game leading to a quick score from Cobian (12-15, 276 yards, 3 TD’s, 158.3 NFL Passer Rating/376.4 NCAA QB rating) to Christian Dominguez on a 48 yard catch and run (3 Receptions, 97 yards and a TD) for a 7-0 lead. “We always want to set the tempo on the 1st series, and our O-Line just gave me time, and I just found some open guys. That’s how we draw it up, in practice, I just want to say thanks to the O-Line, they are the ones who make it happen for me.

It looked like a game, until Gansch showed exactly why he is on the “Silver Pigskin Watch List”. The 5’10 RB looked more like Eric Dickerson with his “Stiff Arm” on a “Fly Sweep” on his way to a 20 yard score that gave Ramona a 20-7 lead, that was extended to a three touchdown lead at half.

Fast forward to the 2nd half, and Gansch had one carry…and the Senior Captain broke off a 52 yard run, that put him over the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the season with his 16th rushing TD of the season, on the the way to a 35 point win.

“It was pretty sweet, I am trying to go for our school record”, said Gansch regarding the Ramona HS Rushing Record.

What may be lost in this win, is the effort the Ramona defense put in, 3 interceptions and 3 sacks. “I love it when I stay on the field and watch it, our defense is a quarterbacks dream.”

This week Ramona will travel down “Route 67” to rival Poway (1-6, 0-1) while Westview will host La Costa Canyon (4-3, 0-2).
