North County Game of the Week Recap: Mission Hills 38, Eastlake 27

Mission Hills will be practicing on Thanksgiving morning, and Eastlake won’t. But it won’t be for a lack of effort. The had all they could handle in the UC San Diego North County Game of the Week on Friday night edging out the Titans 38-27.

The Grizzlies jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead, on a Dakota Miller to Martrel Holmes 58 yard touchdown strike. Then Holmes would go 91 yards on a punt return to put Mission Hills up 14-0 two possessions into the game.

Eastlake would make a furious comeback behind a ground game that is second to none in the county. You know they are going to run it, yet they still gain yardage in chunks. Isaiah Strayhorn, Dean Klaser, and Greg Bell all scored rushing touchdowns.

Eastlake had a chance late, after a Pass Interference call on Troy Warner in the end zone, followed up by personal foul call on Warner, the Titans had the ball inside the three, from there, Klaser scored his 2nd td of the game cutting the Grizzlies lead to 31-27.

Mission Hills moved right down the field, a 48 yard run by Justin Ortega, followed up by Dakota miller’s 2nd touchdown pass of the game secured the 11 point win and a date with Oceanside in the “Open Division Semi-Finals” on Friday November 28. While Eastlake ends the season with a 7-4 record and will more than likely end up top 10 in the San Diego County Final Prep Football Rankings.
