North County Game of the Week Recap: La Jolla 52, Santa Fe Christian 17

In what was supposed to be a Division 3 1st Round playoff game Between Santa Fe Christian and La Jolla turned into a display of what a talent Vikings quarterback Collin Rugg is, in doing that Rugg broke the Single Season Passing record for Touchdowns in a season, and advanced La Jolla to a quarterfinal match up with the #2 seed Christian.

“This is not my record, it starts with Mateo Jimenez who snaps the ball to the rest of the offensive line, to my receivers who catch them (touchdown passes)., Rugg said after the game.

Vikings Head Coach Jason Carter vowed to show San Diego County just how good Collin Rugg is and he delivered. Rugg was 12-20 for 264 yards, with six of the 12 completions for touchdowns.

Rugg’s final two TD passes of the night may have been the best, a short fade into the corner to Brandon Bonham tying the 15 year old record set by Santana quarterback DJ Busch in 1999.

And the prettiest of the bunch was the record breaker to Trenton Fudge who got a toe tap down for the score while falling out of bounds for his 3rd of the game on their way to a decisive 37 point win.

“I didn’t know it was the record breaker,” says Fudge. “But it wouldn’t have mattered, Collin throws a perfect ball.”
