North County Game of the Week Recap: Mission Hills vs. San Marcos
Mission Hills wanted to prove a point in the 11th Annual Discovery Bowl in their win over San Marcos, and they did more than that.
The UC San Diego North County Game of the Week was a display in just how good Mission Hills can be, easily rolling past City Rival San Marcos 54-13.
The Grizzlies drove down the field on their 1st drive of the game, and scored. They drove down the field on their 2nd possession and scored, they drove down on their 3rd drive of the game and scored.
Point proven.
The Grizzlies deserve to be one of the top 4 seeds in the CIF “Open Division”. While De Chaun Holiday garnered all the attention after being named to the “US Army All American Game”, Blue chip wide receiver Marterl Holmes was catching touchdowns.
Holmes caught a slant across the middle for a score to give Mission Hills a 7-0 lead. Minutes later De Chaun Holiday was ripping the ball away from the Knights defensive back for a 13-0 lead 9 minutes int to the contest.
Mission Hills QB Dakota Miller goes Tim Tebow and runs for 42 yards setting up, himself for a quick TD and a 20-0 lead.
But in a Rivalry game, it brings out the best in a player like Tyler Nix who wills himself to a score and cutting the lead to 20-7.
Don’t blink because minutes later, Holmes goes across the middle for his 2nd score of the half, extending the lead to 27-7. The ensuing Kick Off, the Knights Terrell Burgess goes 99 yards for one of the prettiest kick off returns for a score cutting the lead to 13.
But another Grizzlies score and interception at the end of the half send Mission to their 8th win of the year.
(4) Mission Hills will host (5) Eastlake Friday November 21st, in the Open Division Playoffs, while (2) San Marcos awaits the winner of Otay Ranch and Lincoln on November 21 in the Division 2 playoffs.
