North County pedestrian struck and killed by motorist

VISTA (CNS) – A car struck and killed a North County woman today as she tried to cross a street near her home in the predawn gloom.

Imelda Limon, 68, was walking across the 1300 block of North Melrose Drive in Vista about 5:30 a.m. when the northbound Saturn Ion hit her, according to the county Medical Examiner's Office.

Limon, a Vista resident, died at the scene.

The 64-year-old motorist was unhurt, sheriff's traffic Deputy Ron Halstead said. She stopped in the area and was questioned by investigators, he said.

It was not immediately clear who was at fault for the crash, though Limon apparently was not in a marked crosswalk and was about 150 feet north of the nearest intersection when the compact car hit her.
