Number of sworn officers hits 15-year low in San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Roughly 250 officers left the San Diego Police Department in 2021-2022.

A full staff on the SDPD police force typically consists of roughly 2,000 officers. Today, that number has dwindled to 1,600.

Former Mayor Kevin Faulconer joined KUSI’s Hunter Sowards and Logan Byrnes to discuss the impact this shortage has had on the safety of San Diego citizens.
