Oceanside 42, RBV 10

Oceanside 42-10 Rancho Buena Vista

The Oceanside Pirates (5-0) sailed to another victory and remained unbeaten. Rancho Buena Vista Longhorns (1-0) were routed at home by a score of 42-10. This dominating win will solidify Oceanside’s place atop the San Diego County high school football standings.

It seemed like that RBV was going to pull off the upset. Longhorn defender Jordan Fisher picked off Pirates Quarterback, Matthew Romero on Oceanside first drive of the game. The senior took the interception 30 yarend zonendzone to get first blood in favor of RBV. After that score its defense stopped Oceanside and its offense was able to put 3 more points on the board to make it 10-0 Longhorns. Those in attendance were enthralled by what they were seeing on the field. As the winds of defeated were taking Oceanside off course, the Pirate fleet regrouped and prepared to attack.

The first wave came via Josh Bernard, he exploded up the middle and took the ball all the wayend zone endzone. All that stood in front of the Pirate running back was 64 yards of wide open field. RBV’s lead was now a 3 point advantage, the momentum was shifting quickly in favor of the visitors. After a long pass by Matthew Romero, Senior receiver Johnny Arzola, took the ball all the way down to the Longhorn 6 yard line. That marked the end of the first quarter and the beginning of an Oceanside comeback. Once again it was Bernard who catapulted the Pirates into the lead with a 11 yard touchdown run. Nikko Maggeo delivered the final blow that capsized RBV ship in the first half.

After their bye next week the Longhorns host a league matchup against the undefeated Knights of San Marcos(5-0), that game is on October 10. Homecoming is a very special night for a school and RBV is hoping to give their fans a great gift, what better stage to stop the Knights’ crusade and hand them the first lost of the season. Oceanside will also have the week off and won’t play next Friday. On October 10 they will host the Mission Hills Grizzlies (4-1), it will be a rematch of last year’s Open Division Championship.
