Oceanside 42, San Pasqual 23
At the start of the Oceanside, San Pasqual match-up you would have thought there was a brewing upset. The score remained close entering the 3rd quarter however the Oceanside Pirates showed why they were ranked 13 in California. Previous Player of the Week winner Johnny Arzola had some impressive run-ins, one of which was an 85 yard run for a touchdown. “The facilitator”, senior quarterback Matthew Romero had his hands in many of the scoring plays made by the Pirates. Romero is currently averaging 193 passing yards in only 4 weeks of play. The standout play for the night however, goes to senior wide receiver, John Grumbling who had an impressive 95 yard touchdown on a punt return. The Pirates remain undefeated (4-0) and look forward to see if they’ve moved up in the California ranks.
The San Pasqual Golden Eagles came out strong and put up a great 1st half fight against the Pirates. Due to a few Pirate errors the Eagles were able to capitalize of the turnovers. One of the Pirates’ turnovers put the Eagles in prime scoring position as Devin Stanley made the first play of the game with the QB keep. San Pasqual would stay only a touchdown away from the Pirates until they started to pull away in the second half. The Eagles are now 3-0 and are hungry for their first win of the season.
