Oceanside announces 26th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award application process

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The city of Oceanside announced Monday that applications are being accepted for its 26th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award.

According to the city, the award honors residents who have made significant contributions to help improve community life, promote positive community development and enhance the lives of individuals.

The award especially is meant to recognize volunteer work and activity done by people outside of a work setting and over a long period of time.

Any resident of Oceanside or Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is eligible, and there are no restrictions as to race, ethnicity, age or type of volunteer service.

Nomination forms are available at City Hall, the Oceanside Public Library, and on the city’s website at www.ci.oceanside.ca.us, on the Neighborhood Services-Housing Division page.

The winner will be announced at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Prayer Breakfast in January. The most recent recipient was longtime civic volunteer Charles Adams Sr., a retired biochemical engineer. Adams served for a decade on the MiraCosta College board of trustees, and has been active with various school and nonprofit organizations.
