Oceanside man arrested for alleged sexual assault

VISTA (CNS) – An Oceanside man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of arranging a phony modeling photo shoot in order to lure a college student to a motel room so he could sexually assault her.

Patrol officers investigating a reported disturbance at the lodge in the 1000 block of Carlsbad Village Drive arrested Matthew Nathan Terrell, 27, at about noon Sunday, according to police.

Investigators determined that the 20-year-old victim had answered an online ad for a supposed modeling opportunity and agreed to meet Terrell at the motel.

Once she was in a rental room with the suspect, he allegedly restrained her with plastic tie-wraps, Detective Jeff Smith said. Other motel guests heard her screaming and struggling and made emergency calls.

Terrell was booked into Vista Jail on suspicion of false imprisonment and assault with intent to commit rape. He was being held on $50,000 bail pending trial.

Police believe the suspect may be responsible for other similar alleged crimes in recent months, Smith said.
