Officer bitten by K-9 Unit during car chase

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A dramatic car chase ended in Grantville with a police dog biting an officer.

It started on the I-8 Freeway eastbound near the 163-Interchange.

That’s where an officer started following a car with two men inside.

At some point, that car left the freeway then sped off North on Fairmount Avenue and read-ended another car just under the I-8.

The driver got out and ran, fell into a creek bed, went into the water and was eventually arrested.

It appears the worst injury in this case was to an assisting officer who called for an ambulance because a K-9 Unit had bitten him on the arm.

The two men in the car were not bitten.

Police say they do not believe the men were under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
