Officer-involved shooting in Alpine leaves one injured
ALPINE (CNS) – A member of the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force opened fire today on a man the agency was trying to arrest in an East County neighborhood, leaving him hospitalized with a gunshot wound.
The suspect, who was wanted on a felony arrest warrant, got into a car when the multi-agency team tried to take him into custody in the 2100 block of Arnold Way in Alpine about 9:30 a.m., according to sheriff’s officials.
During an ensuing confrontation, one of the agents shot the man. It was unclear what prompted the gunfire.
The suspect’s condition and identity were not immediately available.
The task force consists of personnel with the federal Marshals Service, U.S. Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.
