Officer-involved shooting in Black Mountain Ranch leaves one dead

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A man was shot and killed late Thursday night after confronting San Diego Police officers with a knife.

The officer-involved shooting took place in the 14600 block of Via Fiesta in the Black Mountain Ranch community just before midnight. According to police, several officers responded to the scene after reports of an assault in a local apartment complex.

The suspect in the assault, a 60-year-old man, answered the door when police knocked, and proceeded to charge the officers while holding a knife. One of the officers opened fire and struck the man once in the torso.

The suspect was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. No officers were hurt in the incident.
