SDPD officer shoots and kills charging dog in City Heights

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A San Diego police officer shot and killed a charging dog early Monday while attempting to contact a possible witness to an earlier assault, police said.

The officer was investigating in the vicinity of Thorn and 42nd street around 12:20 a.m., after a man was attacked by three suspects in front of his home in the area.

The dog was shot about 20 minutes later as the officer entered the gated yard of a neighbor who may have witnessed the assault. The officer was not bitten or otherwise injured, according to SDPD Sergeant Tom Sullivan .
