Oldest-ever marathon finisher completes Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Sunday’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon saw a world record fall, as a 92-year-old North Carolina woman became the oldest female to complete a full marathon.
Harriette Thompson of Charlotte, North Carolina, at 92 years and 93 days old, broke the record that was set in 2010, when Gladys Burill finished the Honolulu Marathon at 92 years, 19 days old. She finished the race in seven hours, 24 minutes, 36 seconds.
Thompson, a two-time cancer survivor, has also raised more than $90,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon was the 16th marathon for Thompson, who began running when she was 76 years old.
Igor Campos of La Jolla and Lenore Moreno were the men’s and women’s winners, respectively.
