Olympian 21, Morse 12
Olympian used a stout defense and clutch special teams play to down Morse on their home field Friday, 21-12.
With the game tied at 12 late in the 2nd half, Olympian QB Garry Cannon ripped off a 27-yard run that looked like it would lead to the go-ahead points for the Eagles, but the drive stalled and the ensuing field goal try went wide right and the game remained scoreless.
But not for long. Morse couldn’t move the ball out of their own end, and on 4th and long Olympian’s RJ Leomiti blocked the Morse punt, which bounced out of the end zone for an Olympian safety and a 14-12 lead.
On the possession following the free kick, Olympian methodically drove down the field, killing the clock and any hope of a comeback for Morse. Olympian’s Will Lampkin hauled in a shoestring catch near the sideline to keep the Eagle drive alive, and ran it in from 3 yards out a few plays later.
Olympian’s Ju-Shawnte Spann broke up a Morse pass on 4th down and the Eagles ran out the clock.
Olympian will host Lincoln next Friday, while Morse will travel to Pt. Loma.
