Olympian Eagles 27, Poway Titans 19
The Olympian Eagles pulling off the upset of the night with at 27-19 win over Poway to head to the Division II finals.
After a sloppy start its the Eagles Noah Lacsina who drags defenders to the end zone to open the scoring for the game. Lacsina would also make several tackles for losses against the Titans offense. Dante Pressley would record a sack in the second quarter that helped keep the Poway’s offense out of sync. Meanwhile Eagle’s senior Trey Curry was able to bust through on a 72 yard scamper and score. Junior quarterback Nico Mendoza would find Isiah Williams for another touchdown before the end of the first half. Mendoza would also find Rashaun Brown wide open in the end zone in the third quarter for a 25 yard score.
The Eagles couldn’t bottle up Jared Adelman the whole game. He would catch a 60 yard touchdown pass from Tristen Hughes. Adelman would also slice his way through the defense for a 30 yard touchdown run. He would score a third touchdown in the 4th quarter.
Poway will end the season 10-2. Meanwhile the Eagles will head to Southwestern College for the final against Mater Dei. Their record is now 8-4.
We hit Thanksgiving week with a Division II semifinal game of top seeded Poway hosting four seeded Olympian. Both schools are coming off big wins in the quarter final round. The two faced each other early in the season with the Titans getting the victory 17-10.
The Titans sole loss this season came November 4th against Rancho Bernardo. Jared Adelman made a major impact last week scoring four touchdowns.He also has over 1,000 yards rushing on the season and as a team Poway has put up big numbers offensively scoring 373 points.
Olympian enters the game with a 7-4 record on the season. They are led by junior quarterback Nico Mendoza who had thrown for 17 touchdowns and over 1,000 yards this season. They have multiple guys that can carry the rock for the Eagles. It starts with Noah Lacsina who has scored five touchdowns and has just under 1,000 yards on the season. They also have Trey Curry and Rashaun Brown who can add to the offensive attack. On defense Andrew Whyte has 136 tackles this season. Rock Gonzalez has been able to get to and sack the opposing quarterback ten times this season.
