Olympian Eagles 28, Otay Ranch Mustangs 21

Week 9 is in the books and we are now two weeks away from the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs.  It was the Battle of the O’s as the (3-6) Otay Ranch Mustangs traveled up the road to (6-3) Olympian to face off with the Eagles.

It was a special night at Olympian, where it was senior night for the Eagles and on top of the marquee was Senior Dominic Gudino as he made his commitment to SDSU official.

We start the action in the 1st quarter when Nico Mendoza would throw a 26 yard touchdown pass to Chris Osgood to take a 7-0 lead.

Later in the first Mendoza would connect for another touchdown, this time to Mikael Tyler for a 87 yards and a 14-7 Olympian lead.

Otay Ranch would not go down without a fight, quarter back Kelvin Bradley would connect with Devin Lloyd for a 33 yard touchdown pass , tied up at 14.

Olympian would strike back to take a 7 point lead at the half, 21-14.

After the break the Mustangs Bradley would hook up with Lloyd again, this time for  a 63 yard touchdown, tied at 21.

But the Eagles would want that trophy back and improve to a 5-1 record over rival Otay Ranch, Mendoza would connect with Tyler for a 58 yard touchdown and the game winner.

The final, 28-21 Olympian.

The Eagles now improve to 3-0 in the Mesa-Metro League and await Mater Dei in the final week of the season for the League title.

Otay Ranch on the other hand heads back home for their final game of the season vs the Bonita Vista Barons.

It’s Week 9 of the Prep Pigskin Report and we are in the heat of the Metro- Mesa League title race. It’s the Battle of the O’s at Olympian High School as the Eagles host rival, the Otay Ranch Mustangs.

It was rough start for (3-5) Otay Ranch but they have found the winning ways, winning 3 of their last 4 games. The Mustangs beat the Eastlake Titans last week for the first time in the schools 14 year history and improving their league record to 1-1..

(5-3) Olympian on the other hand is looking to improve to 2-0 after knocking off Eastlake and Bonita Vista. QB Nico Mendoza and RB Noah Lacsina anchor the Offense, while Dominic Gudino anchors both sides of the line. The Eagles lead the rivalry series 4-1 after losing to the Mustangs last season.

If anyone in the Mesa League is able to knock off Mater Dei, there may be a three way tie for the title

Otay Ranch: Wins vs Olympian and Bonita Vista- Record: 3-1
Olympian: Loses to Otay and Win vs Mater Dei- Record: 3-1
Mater Dei: Wins vs Bonita Vista and loses to Olympian- Record 3-1
Three way title
