One dead in City Heights “ride-by” shooting

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A person was fatally shot by someone on a bicycle in the City Heights area early Wednesday, police said.

Someone called 911 at 6:11 a.m. saying seven gunshots were heard in the vicinity of 41st Street and Orange Avenue, San Diego police Officer Frank Cali said, adding the gunman was a man seen fleeing the area on a bicycle.

Paramedics took the victim, who was found in a shot-up vehicle, to Scripps Mercy Hospital, according to a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher. The person died a short time later, said Cali.

Several lanes of traffic were shut down in the area for the investigation, including both eastbound and westbound lanes of Orange Avenue between Marlborough and Central avenues.
