One dead in La Mesa rollover crash

LA MESA (CNS) – A rollover crash shut down eastbound Interstate 8 in La Mesa Saturday and several news outlets reported the crash was fatal.

The crash was reported at 5:05 p.m. east of Jackson Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The vehicle ended up in eastbound lanes but the crash may have initially occurred on the westbound side of the interstate, according to the CHP.

Several broadcast outlets reported the crash was fatal, but dispatchers with the CHP and Heartland Fire Rescue did not immediately confirm that anyone was killed and one station later corrected its initial report of a fatality.

The crash caused major traffic backups on both side of the highway.
