One killed, in fiery crash on I-15 in Scripps Ranch area

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A motorist in a sedan was killed and a passenger was seriously injured Tuesday morning in a fiery crash involving a semi truck on Interstate 15 in the Scripps Ranch area.

The crash happened around 3:10 a.m. on northbound I-15 south of Miramar Way, according to a California Highway Patrol incident log.

The collision left the sedan fully engulfed in flames in the center divide, according to the log. Firefighters responded to the scene and knocked down the flames within 15 minutes, a San Diego Fire-Rescue dispatch supervisor said.

The woman, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, the dispatch supervisor said.

No details about the drivers of the sedan or the semi truck were immediately available.

CHP officers shut down all northbound lanes for the crash investigation. The lanes were reopened by 5:20 a.m.

The deadly crash comes one day after a semi truck crashed into a sedan on southbound Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton, leaving the sedan ablaze and killing the sedan driver.
