One of two carjacking suspects arrested

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – One of two men who robbed and carjacked a family at the Las Americas mall in San Ysidro was behind bars Monday.

Two men, a woman and a 12-year-old boy were confronted in their van in the parking lot shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday by two men, robbed at gunpoint and forced out of the vehicle, San Diego police Officer David Stafford said.

Shortly afterward, a police officer spotted the van headed north on Interstate 5 and followed it to a 7-Eleven on Palm Avenue, where one man was arrested and the other got away on foot, he said.

The name of the man arrested was being withheld. A gun found in the van was recovered by police, Stafford said.
