One person dead in I-805 collision

One person died and three others, including two
children, were injured when a minivan and a pickup truck collided on Interstate
805 in Serra Mesa on Tuesday.

The northbound vehicles crashed near Murray Ridge Road shortly before
2:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

One person died at the scene of the wreck, said Maurice Luque, a
spokesman for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Medics took an adult to
Sharp Memorial Hospital and two minors to Rady Children's Hospital for
treatment of injuries of undetermined severity.

The crash left several lanes blocked and created heavy congestion in the
area into the late afternoon, according to the CHP.
